Greene Lamp was one of over 230 agencies across the United States, with 9 in North Carolina who successfully competed for the Federal Funding which will expand high quality early education and comprehensive health and early intervention services to more than 30,000 low-income infants, toddlers and their families throughout the country. Greene Lamp’s Early Head Start/Child Care Partnership Program will consist of a partnership with 4 licensed child care centers and 2 family child care homes serving 72 infants, toddlers and their families in both Lenoir and Greene counties. The target population has been identified by the Greene Lamp’s current community needs assessment along with other analyzed data. The family child care partners will benefit from on-going training, coaching and mentoring in the provision of high-quality early education services to the children; interior and exterior upgrades; maximized enrollment and support from staff with expertise in early education, family engagement and more. The children and families in Early Head Start will benefit from the high-quality early education services provided and the effective linkage to all needed health and early intervention services through the provision of developmental, vision, hearing, and health screenings. The community will benefit tremendously from the Early Head Start model as it parallels with Head Start; the oldest and most beneficial holistic early learning program in our history. One of the many benefits of having access to both Early Head Start and Head Start, children and families have the opportunity to transition from Early Head Start into Head Start whereby their early learning experience and school readiness skills will continue to be heightened.
