The Foster Grandparents Program is one of three federally funded National Senior Service Corps program. To be a Foster Grandparent, you must meet income eligibility requirements, be 55 years old or older and agree to volunteer at least 20 hours per week. In return, they are paid a small stipend and mileage reimbursement to offset the costs of volunteering. The program offers seniors with opportunities to serve as mentors, tutors and caregivers to children and youth with exceptional needs.
Greene Lamp partners with the Caswell Center and the Senior Corps to provide “Grandmas” for the Head Start classrooms. The Grandma’s assist in the classrooms by helping with food preparation and sharing their time, love and experience with the children and staff.
